Srinagar, Dec 28, : Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, chaired a high-level review meeting today at the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of various key initiatives.

The agenda of the meeting included a detailed review of district-wise achievements in cocoon crop production (Spring and Autumn) for the year 2024-25. The Director emphasized the need for accurate data collection and analysis to ensure realistic planning and future interventions in cocoon production.

During the meeting threadbare discussions were held on district-wise achievements in field plantations under different schemes, including Departmental initiatives, Silk Samagra-2, and other programs for 2023-24 and 2024-25. The survival rates of these plantations were also thoroughly analyzed, and measures were suggested to improve the quality and sustainability of mulberry plantations across the Union Territory.

The meeting further reviewed the physical and financial status of projects under Capex, HADP, NABARD, and Silk Samagra-2 for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25. Mr. Bhat stressed the importance of timely fund utilization and adherence to project timelines to maximize the impact of these initiatives on the ground.

Another key area of discussion was the production of silkworm seeds against targets set for the year 2024-25. The Director urged the officers to ensure the availability of quality silkworm seeds to meet the growing demands of sericulture farmers, thereby boosting cocoon production and the economic growth of stakeholders.

While concluding the meeting, Mr. Bhat appreciated the efforts of the officers in achieving significant milestones and called for a concerted approach to address the challenges faced by the department. He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting sericulture as a viable economic activity and emphasized the need for innovation, farmer engagement, and sustainable practices in sericulture development.
