Dehradun, June 03: Talented Yawer Hassa, skipper Shubham Singh Pundir and promising Musaif Ajaz hit brilliant half-centuries before rain washed out the match between Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala, thus J&K sealed berth in the quarter-finals on the basis of better net run rate in the ongoing prestigious Dev Bhoomi Gold Cup Cricket Tournament, being organised by Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) at Maharana Pratap Sports Complex, Dehradun today.
Put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir openers Qamran Iqbal and Yawer Hassan gave a solid foundation to the team, making an opening partnership of 94 runs in 18.2 overs before Qamran was dismissed at his individual score of 42 runs off 56 balls studded with 6 crispy boundaries. Consistent Yawer continued his brilliance and scored 51 runs off 65 balls with 6 delectable boundaries and a massive six. Musaif Ajaz and Shubham Singh Pundir while completing their fabulous half-centuries, made another good partnership of 86 runs. Musaif scored 54 off an equal number of balls with 5 fours and one big six, while Shubham Pundir was unbeaten on 52 runs off 57 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes when rains interrupted the play. Kanhaiya Wadhawan chipped in with 11 runs while Sahil Lotra was unbeaten on one. All the batters were in sublime touch and hit the ball with elegance, fluid grace and utter brilliance. For Kerala, Sijomon and Abijith took two wickets each. Now, J&K will lockhorns with Sehgal Cricket Academy Delhi in the quarterfinals at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Dehradun on June 5, 2025 in a day-nighter. Member Administration JKCA, Brig Anil Gupta and Member Cricket Operations JKCA, Mithun Manhas congratulated the team for making it to the quarterfinals in this prestigious Tournament. They were all praise for the players and support staff especially, Coach Ajay Sharma for guiding young team to storm into last eight stage in such a big Tournament. “Heartiest congratulations JKCA for entering quarter-finals of Dev Bhoomi Gold Cup Cricket Tournament being played at Dehradun under the aegis of Cricket Association of Uttarakhand,” tweeted Brig Anil Gupta.
