Kangan, Aug 30: Authorities on Friday transported the body of a trekker to Kangan hospital after it was discovered near Gangabal Gadsar area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The deceased, identified as Rohit Sayal (44), a resident of South West Delhi’s Sector 19, was found in the region of Gangabal.
Trekker is believed to have succumbed due to low oxygen levels, cold, and adverse weather conditions while trekking in the high-altitude region of Gangabal.
Soon after receiving the information, the Kangan Police, along with the Army and local residents, arrived at the scene and recovered the body.”
According to an official the Kangan police have taken the body into custody for medico-legal formalities. The body has been sent to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for further examination.8
SSP Ganderbal Waseem Qadri confirmed that the Kangan police responded promptly to the information and transported the body to Hospital. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the trekker’s death. More details will be released as the investigation progresses.

Incessant rains: Dozens of livestock killed in Ganderbal
: In a tragic incident, dozens of livestock belonging to a nomadic family were killed after incessant rains caused the collapse of a temporary mud house, locally known as a “Kotha,” in the upper reaches of Rayil Naad area of Gund Tehsil, in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Kotha, which belonged to Lal Hussain Bokda, son of Fazal Din, a resident of Manjakot Rajouri and currently residing in Rayil Naad Gund, was completely destroyed due to the continuous downpour. While no loss of human life was reported, the family suffered significant losses as their livestock, which served as their primary source of livelihood, were killed in the incident.
The affected family is now appealing to the district administration for compensation, as the livestock were their only means of sustenance.
Weather advisory issued in view of increment weather
In light of the ongoing inclement weather conditions and continuous rainfall across Kashmir, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Shopian today issued a weather advisory stating that there are rising concerns of flash floods, potential cloudbursts at isolated locations, and the temporary suspension of surface transportation in the district.
These conditions may lead to a significant increase in water levels in the Nallah Rambiara and its adjacent tributaries. Given the current weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), line departments of the district have been directed to take precautionary measures to mitigate any untoward incidents.
The Flood Control Room shall be activated immediately, and all resources must be kept in a state of readiness. Control Rooms of PWD (R&B) Circle, KPCDL, and Hydraulic Circle Shopian have been directed to be activated, and men and machinery in full readiness to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Additionally, all Tehsildars in the Shopian district were instructed to maintain vigilance and advise the public, especially school children, within their respective jurisdictions to refrain from venturing nearby to rivers and streams due to the potential for sudden rises in water levels.
