Srinagar, Jul 25: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over the matter of interim bail or custody parole for the participation of Member of Parliament (MP) Baramulla Engineer Rashid in the ongoing Parliament session. The case revolves around the imposition of Rs 1.45 lakh per day in travel and security expenses by the Patiala House Court, despite Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) president Er Rashid’s constitutional right to represent his constituency in Parliament.Reacting to the development, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said, “We welcome the Hon’ble High Court’s notice to the NIA. Engineer Rashid is an elected MP, not just an accused. Such unaffordable conditions are discriminatory and deeply undemocratic.”He said, “Arguments will be heard on July 29, the same day as the hearing for his regular bail. AIP is fully committed to pursuing every democratic and legal path to secure justice, dignity and full representation for Baramulla. We have sought interim bail and as a precaution, also filed for custody parole. Our fight for justice, democracy and representation continues with full commitment.”The spokesperson further added: “The real question is, can a duly elected MP be financially barred from attending Parliament? The people of the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency deserve their voice to be heard. We trust the Hon’ble Court will act with fairness and constitutional clarity.”
