Srinagar, Aug 18: In view of the weather advisory predicting heavy rainfall, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), on Monday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the DC Office Complex to assess the district’s preparedness and mitigation measures.A statement issued here the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner CEO DDMA Srinagar, Aadil Fareed, Director Meteorological Centre, Mukhtar Ahmad, SP Headquarters, Umar Shah, Joint Commissioner SMC, Nuzhat Khurshid, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Superintending Engineers of R&B, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineers of PDD, R&B, I&FC, besides all Tehsildars, Block Development Officers and other concerned officers. At the outset, DC Labroo stressed the need for utmost coordination among all line departments to ensure a robust disaster mitigation plan. He directed officials to remain in a state of readiness by mobilising men and machinery, particularly at vulnerable spots, to prevent loss of lives and property.
The DC emphasized round-the-clock monitoring of sensitive areas, ensuring timely dissemination of weather-related information to the public so that people remain updated about evolving situations. He also called for stronger liaison between departments, local communities, field staff, and the police to streamline communication on the ground. Highlighting the importance of pre-emptive action, DC Labroo asked officials to keep their ground staff on alert mode well in advance. During the meeting, the DC also reviewed existing response strategies of all departments and called for enhanced inter-departmental coordination to guarantee a prompt and effective response in case of any emergency.
