Baramulla, Nov 13: The District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, alongside Dr. Showkat Ahmad, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer, officially launched the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccination Campaign during a ceremony held at the District Commissioner’s office.
This initiative, organized under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), aims to achieve comprehensive vaccination coverage for 373,000 sheep and goats throughout all Sheep Development Blocks (SDBs) in Baramulla District. At the launch event, specialized teams from the Sheep Husbandry Department were deployed, equipped with necessary vaccination tools, to administer vaccinations across both rural and urban areas of the district.
The vaccination campaign, which commenced today, is scheduled to continue until January 31, 2025, as part of a national strategy to control Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) by 2025 and eradicate it by 2030, thereby enhancing livestock health and supporting the economic stability of farmers. To facilitate efficient and accurate data collection, specialized tablets have been issued to the teams for the digital recording of all vaccination activities. These records will be maintained on the e-Pashudhan app, part of the National Digital Livestock Mission, which centralizes livestock data on a single platform accessible to animal owners, farmers, and the department.
The campaign was also successfully launched in all SDBs today, with dedicated field teams actively conducting vaccinations and providing assistance to local farmers. This program underscores the district administration’s commitment to livestock welfare and disease management, aligning with the national mission to eliminate FMD.
