Srinagar, Apr 26: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that they have neutralized two terrorists in the Nowpora Sopore area following an overnight encounter. Among the deceased terrorists, one has been identified as Saifullah.
Talking to reporters in Sopore, V K Bhirdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir said that the encounter ensued after security forces, including 22 RR, police, and CRPF, came under fire.
He said during the operation, which lasted through the night, the security forces managed to eliminate the two terrorists. Substantial quantities of arms, ammunition, and other incriminating materials were recovered from the scene. The precise identities of the terrorists are still under verification, with Saifullah being the one identified thus far.
IGP Bhirdi said that it needs thorough investigation before drawing conclusions about the involvement of the terrorists in various cases. He said the security forces are committed to maintaining peace and security, particularly during election periods.
He said that all branches of security, including the army, police, and CRPF, are dedicated to curbing terrorist activities and ensuring a safe environment.
Addressing the incident of civilian sustaining injuries during the encounter, the IGP said that the individual was timely evacuated and is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital, where his condition is stable.
Regarding elections in Baramulla, IGP said that all necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha General Elections in the district are being taken up. He said police administration is committed for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Kashmir province.
He said all district SPs have been given strict directions to make the ongoing festival of democracy a successful event. Police department has been geared up. All necessary arrangements for free and fair Lok Sabha election in Kashmir Valley are being taken up, IGP Birdi added.
