Srinagar, May 24: National Conference (NC) spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar on Saturday said the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to the welfare of its people, particularly those affected by recent cross-border shelling in the border districts.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Dar said the damage assessment of shelling-affected areas such as Poonch, Rajouri, Uri and Tangdhar is nearing completion. “Once finalised, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will present the comprehensive report to the Government of India (GoI) to seek a substantial relief package for the victims,” he said.
He added that the NC government has already dispatched revenue teams to the affected areas to conduct ground-level surveys and prepare a detailed proposal for rehabilitation and compensation.
“CM Omar Abdullah is currently in Delhi to attend the NITI Aayog meeting, and I am confident that he will raise all the relevant issues, including the plight of shelling victims. He is personally working on a rehabilitation proposal aimed at providing relief and long-term support to the affected families,” Dar said.
The spokesperson further said that during the recently held Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the National Conference, seven resolutions were passed.
“Among them was a resolution condemning the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and a demand for the restoration of J&K’s special status,” he said. “Other resolutions included calls for a special compensation package for those who lost their lives in the shelling.”
These resolutions, Dar said, reflect the party’s deep concern for the suffering of the people. “We are hopeful that the Government of India will act swiftly on these demands,” he said.
He reiterated the NC government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that timely and meaningful action is necessary to address the current challenges faced by the people.
