Jammu, May 05: Democratic Progressive Azad Party’s General Secretary R S Chib expressed his disappointment over the delay in assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir and said that depriving people of their elected representatives is tantamount to violating the democratic values.
Violating democratic values doesn’t augur well for a country like India which has a rich history of democracy, Chib said in a statement issued here. He directed his party members to intensify the membership drive.
“By the time elections in Jammu & Kashmir are held, DPAP shall emerge as one of the largest political parties in the UT,” he said while chairing an office bearers’ meet here.
“Our district presidents must visit extensively to their respective areas and intensify the drive of membership,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chib sought the intervention of the government and adequate compensation to the farmers who lost their wheat crop in extensive rains.
“The farmers who are affected have lost the crucial crop of the year. The worst affected are the farmers living in border areas who have no other source of income. They need fully to be compensated,” Chib said.
