Srinagar, Oct 19: In a significant move aimed at dismantling the terror ecosystem in the valley, The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) conducted searches at five locations across Kupwara, Srinagar, Anantnag, and Pulwama districts of the valley on Thursday. The searches were conducted based on search warrants obtained from the Court of the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 07/2023, filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), registered in the CIK Police Station in Srinagar.
The spokesman said that the case revolves around what authorities describe as a “deep conspiracy” engineered by terrorist organizations and their associates within the Kashmir Valley.
“These actors, in cahoots with handlers located across the border, have been uploading criminal content on various social media platforms. This content is not only deemed seditious but also propagates an anti-India narrative with the intention of glorifying terrorists and enticing vulnerable youths to join terrorist ranks,” he said.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that some individuals and entities have been profiling people, especially those who hold opposing viewpoints against secession or terrorism and advocate for a peaceful, orderly, and violence-free society. These profiles have been identified as legitimate targets for vilification and violence,” the spokesman said.
Additionally, these individuals have been targeting legitimate government servants working in Kashmir, constantly issuing threats, both overt and veiled, with the intention of harming their personal reputation and property, thereby obstructing them from performing their lawful duties.
“Further investigations have shown that these individuals, through Facebook accounts, promote discord and hostility among different religious and regional groups and encourage youth to engage in large-scale violence and disrupt the peace and tranquility of Kashmir,” he said.
The spokesman said during the searches, incriminating materials, including electronic devices and other items relevant to the ongoing investigation, were seized and recovered. The collected data will be analyzed, and any leads that emerge will form the basis for further inquiry.
“These searches are part of efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the valley by identifying elements that threaten the state’s peace and security, particularly those who support or facilitate terrorism by luring impressionable young individuals into the world of terrorism,” he added.
