Srinagar, Sep 21: As the Chanapora constituency gears up for elections on September 25, residents are articulating their pressing concerns and hopes for new leadership in the region.
Local residents have raised several key issues, primarily focusing on healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety. A significant concern is the local Community Health Centre (CHC), which offers basic medical services but closes at 4 PM.
Suhail Ahmad, a resident, expressed frustration over the limited hours, stating, “After this time, we have no choice but to seek care at private hospitals or the SMSH hospital, leading to considerable inconvenience. We hope the new leader will work to keep the CHC open longer and improve healthcare facilities.”
Infrastructure issues are also at the forefront of discussions. Voters highlighted the urgent need for better road macadamization and a proper drainage system. The main road connecting South Kashmir to Srinagar via Chanapora is heavily congested and in poor condition. “We are hopeful that the new leader will address the drainage problem to prevent flooding,” said another resident, Irfan Ahmad, who noted that the area gets inundated during rains, complicating daily life.
Residents are additionally concerned about a rising dog menace, with increased reports of dog bites in recent months. Many believe authorities need to take immediate action to address this pressing issue.
Another critical concern raised by voters is the escalating electricity tariff bills. Many families in Chanapora rely on daily labor for their income, making it increasingly difficult to manage these rising costs.
As elections approach, the people of Chanapora are looking for a leader who will listen to their challenges and take concrete steps to alleviate their basic needs, improve healthcare, enhance infrastructure, and ensure public safety.
