Senior leaders demand disciplinary action against duo for ‘undermining party unity’
Srinagar, Oct 21: The Congress Party has launched a scathing attack against its Ghulam Nabi Monga and Mohd Anwar Bhat, accusing them of engaging in anti-party activities and encouraging others—who are not even basic party members—to act against the party’s interests.
During a meeting of senior leaders chaired by Srinagar District Congress Committee (DCC) President Irfan Naqib, the committee labelled Monga and Bhat as “products of conflict”, saying they have failed to secure victories in even local panchayat and ward elections.
“Monga and Bhat are leading groups in name only, and many of those they claim to represent are not registered members of the party,” the meeting noted.
The committee further alleged that both leaders have consistently worked against the Congress Party and its leadership, often supporting opponents for personal gain. “They are not grounded in the party’s grassroots. Their political careers are floundering, and their attempts to undermine party leadership have been in vain,” the meeting observed.
Notably, despite receiving considerable support from the Congress Party in the past, including party tickets for assembly elections, both Monga and Bhat failed to secure even 400 votes in those contests. According to the meeting, their political influence has diminished as a result of these repeated failures.
The DCC meeting highlighted Monga’s continuous opposition to decisions made by the party’s high command, which has led to factionalism and indiscipline within the party. “He continues to sow divisions and promote discord, but has always fallen short in his efforts,” the meeting said.
The committee expressed astonishment at Monga’s recent attempts to rally Congress workers who are not even active members. Both Monga and Bhat must engage in self-reflection concerning their unsuccessful political careers. They have been unable to secure their security deposits in elections, despite holding significant positions within the party,” it added.
The meeting concluded by stating their intention to formally request the Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief to initiate disciplinary action against Monga and Bhat.
“We aim to weed out the deadwood and prevent further destabilisation of the party. Monga and Bhat have consistently prioritised their self-interest over party welfare, and their promotion of factionalism is unacceptable,” the meeting asserted.
