Srinagar, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her Martyrdom Day at Srinagar Party Office, recalling her sacrifices and selfless services to the nation. The party also paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary.
Congress leaders and workers led by Senior Vice President of the party G N Monga paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister and Congress stalwart Indira Gandhi on her 39th martyrdom day and recalled her great contributions to the inclusive development of India and her selfless services rendered to people.
Speaking on the occasion, Monga said, “Indira Ji sacrificed her life, but did not compromise on the integrity of the nation and saluted his bravery and courage. She worked tirelessly for the inclusive development of the nation and empowerment of people especially the poor and downtrodden section of India. The Iron Lady was known for her decision and courage. She secured the nation from both external and internal threats.”
Monga told the party workers that the best way to pay homage to Indira Gandhi was to defeat the “divisive and fascist agenda of BJP which is hell-bent upon dividing people on religious lines to create a wedge among the communities for the lust of power”.
JKPCC also observed October 31 as Black Day against the downgrading of J&K State into two UTs against the wishes of the people by the BJP government, the party said.
Congress leaders raised slogans against the BJP government and demanded the restoration of Statehood to J&K. They slammed the BJP’s move to celebrate UT Divas terming it a “mere eyewash and an attempt to cover the failures and wrong decisions it has taken with regard to Jammu and Kashmir”.
