Vows to revive Dr. Manmohan Singh’s rehab prog for KPs if Cong-JKNC alliance wins
Accuses Modi of ignoring domestic crises, including violence in Manipur
Srinagar, Sept 11: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge committed on Wednesday to restore and fully implement former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s rehabilitation programme for Kashmiri Pandits if the Congress-Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) alliance wins the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Kharge criticised the BJP for failing to address the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits over the past decades. “The BJP has neglected the needs of Kashmiri Pandits. We will revive the rehabilitation programme to ensure their proper integration and support,” Kharge declared.
Kharge emphasised the importance of the Jammu and Kashmir elections, stating, “This election is not just about one state; it’s about having a representative who can address state-specific issues. In my 60 years of political life, I have never seen a state being made a Union Territory.”
Addressing concerns about job creation, Kharge questioned the BJP’s failure to fill one lakh vacant government positions in Jammu and Kashmir, while also highlighting 30-35 lakh unfilled government posts nationwide. He criticized the current administration for failing to tackle unemployment, inflation, and corruption.
He also criticized BJP and stated that earlier many bills were passed without discussion. But this is not the case now.
“The Waqf Board bill had to be sent to the JPC because today the PM Modi government itself is in minority. This government has not crossed 400, but has crossed 200. As soon as Naidu and Nitish withdraw their support, the BJP government will fall,” Congress President said.
Prime Minister Modi focuses on international publicity, serious issues like the violence and chaos in Manipur are ignored,” Kharge asserted, condemning the current administration’s handling of domestic crises.
He said even PM Narendra Modi does a lot of publicity outside the country but left his own house burning.
“Manipur is burning, women are being raped there. Houses are being looted, people are being murdered, but PM Modi Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are not worried about this,” Kharge said.
