Jammu, Dec 23: Congress on Monday demanded resignation and a public apology from Home Minister Amit Shah for “insulting” Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar in the parliament. The party also announced to hold ‘Ambedkar Samman March’ on Tuesday in Jammu.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, J&K Congress Working President Raman Bhalla, joined by senior party leaders said, “As part of a nationwide call of the party, the ‘Ambedkar Samnan March’ will be taken out from Dr Ambedkar Chowk Gandhinagar Jammu on Tuesday at 11.30 a.m. onwards to further press the demand for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.”
Bhalla said the entire nation is hurt by the “insulting” remarks of the Home Minister in the parliament against the father of the Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar.
Ravinder Sharma, Chief Spokesperson said, “It was on the written request of Congress President and LOP in Rajya Sabha and LOP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to the Presiding officers of the two houses regarding discussions on the Constitution on completion of 75th year, that the debate was held in the two houses of parliament, during the course of which Amit Shah used the derogatory words against Dr Ambedkar.”
Instead of expressing gratitude and honouring his great contributions to the framing of the Constitution, Amit Shah insulted Ambedkar, he alleged.
Former minister, Yogesh Sawhney, former MLC Ved Mahajan, former Chairman Legislative Council, A S Micky, DCC president Th Manmohan Singh, Shashi Sharma, Suresh Dogra and others were also present at the press conference.
