New Delhi, Aug 12: Iftikhar Ahmed, the General Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in Jammu and Kashmir, met with Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in New Delhi on Monday.
During the meeting, Ahmed provided Gandhi with an update on the current political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and discussed organisational matters related to the region.
“Ahmed highlighted the difficulties faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to the delay in holding assembly elections,” a statement issued here said, adding, “He emphasized that, in the absence of a Congress Member of Parliament from the region in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the people of J&K have high expectations from Rahul Gandhi to represent their concerns.”
Iftikhar requested Rahul to visit Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Pir Panjal region, and discussed key issues such as promoting tourism in the area, the construction of a tunnel at Mughal Road, and improving railway connectivity to Rajouri and Poonch.
Gandhi listened attentively to these concerns and assured Ahmed that he would advocate for the needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament.
