Srinagar, May 25: Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani on Sunday said building sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir is vital to engaging youth in positive activities and keeping them away from the growing menace of drug addiction.
Aslam made these remarks during a sports event organised by Team Red in Srinagar, aimed at promoting a drug-free lifestyle among the youth. He appreciated the team’s continuous efforts and said such initiatives are crucial for shaping a healthier and more focused younger generation.
“This is Team Red’s initiative. They have organised many events encouraging youth to stay away from drugs and get more involved in sports. We need to support this cause by developing more sports infrastructure,” Wani said.
The CM’s Advisor cited the example of the Gindun Sports Complex in Srinagar, which offers a wide range of facilities like football, squash, swimming, and tennis. “Such facilities should be developed in every constituency so that children not only play but also get trained professionally,” he added.
The senior NC leader highlighted the existing talent pool in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the youth have shown exceptional performance in MMA, cricket, football, and even water sports. “Our youth are capable of competing at the international level and bringing laurels to J&K, provided they get proper support and training,” he said.
When asked about commitments to developing sports grounds, Wani said local MLAs, especially from Srinagar, are actively working to ensure sports facilities are set up across constituencies.
Speaking about an upcoming meeting with the Chief Minister in Gulmarg, he said it would address key issues, including trade and tourism. “Tourism suffered after the recent Pahalgam incident. Now, efforts are underway to rebuild trust and confidence among tourists,” he said.
Wani further called for joint efforts between the state and central governments. “Everyone — whether it’s the state government or the Centre — must work together to restore faith and create a positive environment in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
