Srinagar, Feb 15: A controversy has erupted following a social media post by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s office indicating that he met with Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to discuss the budget session.
People’s Conference president Sajad Gani Lone has strongly criticised the meeting, describing it as an “insult to the sanctity of the legislature” and a “disgrace” to the post of Speaker.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Lone questioned the need for the Speaker, the highest authority in the legislature, to meet with the Chief Minister. He also took a swipe at the Speaker, suggesting that he was being seen in a subordinate light by the Chief Minister.
Lone’s comments have sparked debate, with many questioning the independence and authority of the Speaker in the face of such a meeting. The incident has sparked calls for greater accountability and adherence to democratic principles within the legislature.
