Jammu, Mar 06: After a seven-year hiatus, Jammu & Kashmir’s annual budget will be presented in the Legislative Assembly tomorrow, marking a historic moment for the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the 2025-26 financial statement and supplementary expenditure details for 2024-25 in the Assembly on Friday.
This will be the first time since 2018 that the region’s budget is being presented within the Assembly. Following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, all budget documents were presented in Parliament by the Union Finance Minister. Tomorrow’s session will mark the first in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory that the Chief Minister will present the budget directly to the Assembly.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet gave its approval to the budget in a meeting on March 2, and the Legislative Assembly has scheduled general discussions on the budget for March 8, 10, and 11. CM Omar Abdullah, in his dual role as Finance Minister, will conclude the debate with his response on March 11.
The budget presentation is highly anticipated, with many closely watching how it aligns with the promises made by the National Conference in its 2024 election manifesto.
