Srinagar, Aug 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sanctioned the construction of an overhead pedestrian pathway at SKIMS Chowk to enhance pedestrian safety and easing commuter movement, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Zadibal constituency, Tanvir Sadiq said on Saturday.Sadiq, who is also the Chief Spokesperson of National Conference (NC), had put forth the proposal, the party said in a statement issued here.“The Rs 50 lakh project, a long-pending demand of the local population, will greatly benefit commuters, patients, their attendants, and the general public while crossing the bustling intersection that links Nowshera, Bolochipura, and Naribal (Soura side),” the MLA said.Sadiq expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving the proposal and reiterated his commitment to improving civic infrastructure. “This overhead pathway will not only ensure safety and convenience for the public but also mark a significant step in improving urban infrastructure around SKIMS Chowk,” he said.In a forward-looking initiative, the MLA said he is exploring the feasibility of installing mechanised escalators on both sides of the pathway to further aid movement, especially for the elderly, patients, and people with mobility issues. In parallel, the beautification of SKIMS Chowk, also proposed by Sadiq under his Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is already underway.Earlier in the day, MLA Tanvir visited the site along with the Director SKIMS, Executive Engineer, and other concerned officials to inspect and review the plan. The team deliberated on optimising the design and layout of the pathway to maximise public benefit and ensure timely completion.
