Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua inspects wheat crop harvest at IB

Kathua, Apr 27: Chief Agriculture Officer Kathua, Sanjeev Rai Gupta on Thursday carried out an extensive tour of various villages adjoining the International India-Pakistan Border post of Karol Krishna to inspect the status of wheat crop.
During the tour, the team comprising Sanjiv Mehta, Subject Matter Specialist Sub Division Hiranagar, Jamshed Andotra, Agriculture Extension Officer, Marheen, Sanjay Kumar Agriculture Extension Assistant and other officials accompanied the Chief Agriculture Officer, Kathua.
The Chief Agriculture Officer had a productive meeting with Rajinder Singh, Company Commandant BSF, Karol Krishna and farmers regarding the harvest. The opening of the fence gates early in the morning, ensuring maximum daylight use and timely harvest of the wheat crop was focused upon.
Gupta instructed the farmers to use modern machines for faster harvest of wheat crops. He advised them to sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price issued by the Government of India which is Rs 2,125 per quintal for season Rabi 2022-23. He said that during the recent season of harvest, the farmers are expecting a rich harvest of 3900 quintals of wheat from the area under cultivation along the Zero Line.
A total of 251 acres of land was brought under wheat cultivation during the year Rabi 2022-23 along the International Border with the participation of 66 local farmers from various villages of the border in comparison to 141 acres of the area sown during Rabi 2021-22 with the participation of 36 farmers from border villages.
