Srinagar, May 14: Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday urged the Centre to initiate dialogue with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to address their grievances and concerns, saying growing public restlessness, particularly among youth, requires immediate attention.
In a post on X, Bukhari referred to recent remarks by Dattatreya Hosabale and former Army Chief Manoj Naravane advocating dialogue with Pakistan, and said the decision on external engagement rests with the Government of India.
However, he stressed that engaging with the people of Jammu and Kashmir was more important to address long-pending issues affecting daily life in the region.
Bukhari said unemployment, lack of job opportunities, difficulties faced by youth in obtaining passports and rising inflation were among the major concerns confronting people in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also highlighted challenges faced by sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, tourism, MSMEs and small-scale industries, saying many businesses were struggling or nearing collapse.
The Apni Party leader said these issues were creating a sense of dissatisfaction among people and called for immediate intervention to address economic and social challenges in the Union Territory.
