In what can only be described as a miracle, a long-lost son was reunited with his family in Batagund village of Mawar, North Kashmir’s Handwara, after 25 years.

The emotional homecoming of Mohammad Tufail, son of Ghulam Ahmed Malla, left the entire village in awe as he returned just a day after Eid, bringing immense joy to his father.

According to locals, Tufail’s unexpected return was nothing short of divine intervention. His father, Ghulam Ahmed, had faced decades of heartache after being separated from his son. Recalling his ordeal, the 60-year-old father shared that in the late 1990s, he had married a woman in Kolkata, West Bengal. However, tragedy struck when his wife passed away shortly after giving birth to Tufail. Unable to bring his infant son back to Kashmir, Ghulam Ahmed returned alone, enduring years of hardship and uncertainty.

With time, all contacts and means of reaching out to his son in Kolkata were lost, leaving Ghulam Ahmed with little hope of ever seeing him again. However, fate had different plans. Tufail, who was studying at a college in Kolkata, met some Kashmiri students from Kupwara.

Though he knew his father hailed from Kashmir, he was unaware of the exact location. Determined to reunite him with his family, his friends from Kupwara reached out to Nazir Ahmed Gujar, an international leader of the Gujar Mahasabha.

Nazir Ahmed Gujar played a pivotal role in this emotional reunion, leaving no stone unturned to bring Tufail back to his roots. After years of separation, the father and son finally embraced, bringing closure to a painful chapter of their lives.

Ghulam Ahmed expressed his gratitude, stating that since his son’s return, his life has taken a turn for the better. The villagers of Bataund celebrated Tufail’s arrival with great enthusiasm, giving him a warm and rosy welcome.
