Budget Session 2025: 370811 J&K youth registered with employment portal: Govt

Mulls to initiate stipend process for UT's unemployed youth

Jammu, Mar 18: Stressing upon the efforts to tackle the issue of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, the Government on Tuesday stated that a total of 370811 unemployed youth from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have been registered on the employment portal managed by the Employment Department since 2022.
This was revealed by the government in the Assembly in response to a question raised by MLA Devinder Kumar Manyal regarding the number of unemployed youth registered in various employment exchanges of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The government revealed that several steps were being taken to provide government jobs to the youth registered with the portal.
The house was informed that the number of unemployed youth in Kashmir registered with the portal stood at 213007. Government revealed that the number of unemployed youth from Jammu division is 157804
Providing further details the statistics revealed that the number of unemployed youth in Srinagar registered with the Employment portal is 29384 while in Jammu 21131 unemployed youth were registered with the portal.
“The registration of unemployed educated youth is a voluntary process. Unemployed youth register themselves on the employment portal managed by the Employment department. The online portal “jakemp.nic.in” for registration of unemployed youth is in place from 5th January 2022,” government stated.
Further, 370811 unemployed youth have been registered on the employment portal ending January, 2025. All the departments refer their vacant posts after fulfillment of all codal formalities to JKPSC and JKSSB.
The Government further informed that across Kashmir division Ganderbal district had 16536 unemployed youth registered with the portal while as Budgam district had 19123 unemployed youth registered with the Employment portal. The number of such youth in south Kashmir’s district Anantnag is 30012 and in Kulgam district the number stands at 21416.
“In south Kashmir’s Pulwama district 28274 unemployed youth were registered with the employment portal while in Shopian, 18524 youth were registered. In North Kashmir’s Baramulla district 19526, youth, in Bandipora 11068 and in Kupwara 19144 youth were registered with the employment portal,” the concerned Minister stated.
Across Jammu division , district Samba had 21131, Kathua 27040, Kishtwar 8248, Doda 13059, Rajouri 26552 , district Reasi 12429, Udhampur 11520, Ramban 14510 and district Poonch 16213 unemployed youth registered with the employment portal.
In response to the question the house was informed that the Employment Department is organising Career Counseling on a regular basis for unemployed youth that helps them to explore career options in different sectors.
Responding to the question whether the government intends to provide a stipend to the unemployed youth in the UT of J&K, it was stated that currently there is no such plan to provide a stipend to the unemployed youth in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the government towards providing job opportunities to the youth of J&K, the government stated that the employment department has started imparting the skill development training courses across the J&K union territory which has achieved remarkable participation from all sectors. It was further revealed that the candidates are entitled to get a stipend of Rs 1000 per month during the training period.
