Srinagar, Dec 13: CPI(M) leader and former legislator, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Wednesday expressed concern regarding the reopening of an old FIR related to sectarian tensions in Budgam dating back to 2010.
Reflecting on the significant role played by religious leaders and civil society figures in diffusing tensions in 2010, Tarigami expressed disappointment that legal actions are being initiated after more than a decade.
“In 2010, the collaborative efforts of religious leaders and civil society figures played a crucial role in calming sectarian tensions in Budgam. Their united approach not only preserved law and order but also nurtured communal harmony. Both sects involved demonstrated responsible behaviour, thwarting the sinister designs of vested interests attempting to disturb the prevailing peace and harmony,” he remarked.
Tarigami added that it is unfortunate to witness some individuals being summoned to court over an old FIR after more than two decades.
Taking to Twitter, he urged intervention and brought the matter to the attention of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Requesting @OfficeOfLGJandK to intervene and get the FIR withdrawn.”
