Srinagar, Oct 14: BJP Youth Leader and Party’s Media Incharge Manzoor Bhat on Saturday stressed the urgent need for collective efforts to combat the escalating drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the vital role civil society plays in supporting law enforcement initiatives.
Bhat was addressing a drug de-addiction rally at Lal Chowk here organised by Helping Hands Care Foundation J&K, a prominent non-government organisation (NGO). Umer Wani, Chairman of the NGO, Dr Sumit Sharma Jones Kumar, DySp Kothi Bagh, Majid Ahmad, SHO Maisuma, and Muzamil Nazir, Vice Chairman, who was also the Guest of Honour, were present at the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Manzoor Bhat highlighted that the fight against drug abuse is a shared responsibility, urging the community to protect the youth from the clutches of addiction. He praised the efforts of the Jammu & Kashmir Police in curbing drug-related activities and emphasised the importance of awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programs, and community initiatives.
The BJP youth leader underscored the necessity of stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and local NGOs. He said punitive measures alone are not sufficient and called for providing support and alternatives to individuals trapped in the cycle of addiction.
Following the rally, the NGO, as per a press release, organised a blood donation camp at Chanapora, where 82 blood donors came forward in a display of humanity. The event received overwhelming support from the local population, showcasing the community’s dedication to helping those in need, it said, adding that donors from diverse backgrounds contributed, recognising the profound impact their donation could have on patients in medical emergencies.
The organisers expressed their gratitude for the “remarkable turnout” and the community’s willingness to participate in this noble endeavour. They emphasised the importance of such acts of kindness, particularly in times of medical crises.
