Ganderbal, Jan 22: A black bear that had been troubling residents in the Gurjar Basti Watlar area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was successfully captured alive by wildlife authorities on Wednesday.
According to a wildlife official, the bear was sighted several times in recent days, causing concern among the local population. Upon spotting the bear, residents promptly alerted the wildlife authorities, who acted swiftly to address the situation.
“A team from the wildlife department, along with the control room staff, reached the area immediately after receiving the information. They set up a cage and, with the cooperation of the locals, managed to capture the bear after some effort,” the official said.
Incharge of the Wildlife Control Room Ganderbal, Shabir Ahmad, confirmed to Rising Kashmir that the bear was captured after being tranquilized. “The bear has been safely relocated and released in Dachigam National Park,” he added.
