Srinagar, Mar 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a robust and comprehensive approach to the return and rehabilitation of the Displaced Community from Kashmir, saying that any superficial attempts to address the issue will be counterproductive.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Girdhari Lal Raina, former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and BJP spokesperson, said there is an urgent need for inclusive planning and serious dialogue with community leaders. “The government must engage in discussions with the leadership of the Displaced Community to fully understand their fears, apprehensions, and aspirations,” he said, reacting to recent legislative assembly discussions surrounding the issue.
Raina said it is necessary to differentiate between political migrants and the displaced community, saying their concerns are fundamentally different. “The Displaced Community particularly the religious minority of Hindus has been uprooted socially, economically and culturally. Their return and rehabilitation has to comprehensively address all these aspects as is laid down under norms,” he said.
The BJP leader further called for ensuring safety, dignity and security for the displaced individuals, saying that their reintegration into the region must not compromise their community identity. “The seriousness of the government will depend on the steps taken to facilitate this,” he asserted.
“Illegal encroachment of immovable property, both individual and community is also troubling the displaced community earnestly. Distress sales of encroached property also need to be handled in appropriate manner,” he said.
Raina demanded an overhaul of the relief organisation in order to make it “more people-friendly”. He said the government must ensure that aid reaches those truly in need, regardless of their religious background.
