Ganderbal, Apr 17: Former MLA of Ganderbal and President of Jammu Kashmir United Movement (JKUM), Shiekh Ishfaq Jabbar on Wednesday revealed plans to field a candidate for the Srinagar Parliamentary constituency.
Speaking to media persons while commemorating the 34th death anniversary of his father Shiekh Abdul Jabbar, Ishfaq expressed his party’s determination to contest the upcoming elections.
Addressing a rally at Qamriya Stadium in Ganderbal, he criticised regional parties, particularly the National Conference, for allegedly exploiting the people of Jammu and Kashmir for decades. He said the candidate for the Srinagar seat would be chosen through discussions among party members.
Highlighting the agenda of his party’s campaign, Ishfaq underscored the importance of regional development and addressing the daily challenges faced by the populace. He pledged to make efforts towards amnesty for incarcerated youth and political leaders held in various prisons across the country.
Jabbar levelled accusations against the “Sheikh dynasty”, alleging neglect of the Ganderbal district despite garnering electoral support from the area. He asserted that the party would extend support to like-minded candidates in other parliamentary constituencies.
