Jammu, Nov 25: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to delay the conduct of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir as the party workers staged a protest in front of the ECI Jammu office.
Party volunteers headed by Incharge of Jammu and Kashmir Coordination Committee of AAP Harsh Dev Singh assembled in front of Jammu office of Election Commission of India wherein they held a dharna demanding immediate assembly elections.
“BJP and the concerned setups are to prolong the delay in holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir which is taking a toll on the overall system of governance and leaving a common man in a helpless state,” Singh said.
Talking to media persons, Harsh Dev said that elections in Jammu and Kashmir are the need of the hour “for restoration of democracy as people are deprived of democratically elected government.”
He said that BJP is delaying elections for no reason and is “just prolonging bureaucratic setup in Jammu and Kashmir which is the proxy rule of Bhartiya Janta Party.”
Singh asked the BJP government and Election Commission of India to restore democracy and hold elections without any delay. He said “BJP is delaying polls as it is well aware that things are out of its hands and people are ready to teach them a lesson for misgovernance”.
Similarly, AAP’s state spokesperson Gagan Partap Singh, in a statement, said that BJP is delaying elections in Jammu and Kashmir as it is aware of the fact that “it has lost its ground.”
AAP leaders further stated that today’s protest is an eye opener for both BJP and ECI with demand for restoration of democracy by holding elections without any further delay.
