The Wildlife Department on Thursday has rescued Barn Owl from Ichkoot village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Block Officer from the Wildlife Control Room Budgam, told the Rising Kashmir that some children from the Ichkoot village have captured the Barn Owl in the village on Wednesday evening. With the efforts of the locals, this Barn owl has been handed over to one of the responsible citizen who have taken care for this owl for night at his home.
“After receiving the information, we visit the spot and take the owl back in front of the locals.” This Barn Owl has been sent to Dachigam National Park. So, this Barn Owl species will also remain preserved in the Kashmir valley,” he said.
Ahmad said that this is one species in the Kashmir valley that could be found in many areas of the valley. If any body who committed such an offence would face a term of imprisonment for a term 3 years.
