Srinagar, June 05: In a bid to ensure cleanliness during Eid-ul-Adha, the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir and the Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, has appealed to the public not to dispose of animal hides and offal in drains, water bodies, or public places.
An official from the Rural Sanitation Department told Rising Kashmir that residents performing Qurbani (sacrificial slaughter) should use designated disposal points or contact their local Panchayat Secretary for safe disposal.
“Special hoppers are being deployed across rural areas to collect animal hides. Citizens can also donate hides to their local masjid committees. It is the duty of every resident to maintain hygiene by not dumping hides or offal in public spaces,” the official said.
The department has already identified specific locations for collection of the hides in rural areas. Panchayat Secretaries have been tasked with ensuring proper disposal from their respective villages.
Meanwhile, the Director of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir,Qazi Sarwar said that all Executive Officers of municipal committees have been instructed to oversee the collection of animal hides within their jurisdictions.
“We’ve designated collection points in each municipal ward. Once gathered, the hides will be transported to a central location and later sold to interested buyers,” the Director said.
Qazi added that contact numbers of designated hide collection drivers will be made public, enabling residents to coordinate directly for collection services during the festival.
Authorities have emphasised the importance of public cooperation to prevent health hazards and maintain environmental hygiene during Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.
