Anantnag August 24: A Town Hall meeting with voters and a Walkathon were part of a mega SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) event held in Anantnag today.

The events were presided over by District Election Officer Anantnag Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid and were attended by a cross section of voters including traders, general public, vendors, women, old and first time voters.

In attendance were also, the Returning Officer 44-Anantnag, Chief Education Officer (Nodal Officer SVEEP), Chief Executive Officer Municipality Anantnag, District Information Officer among others.

During the Town Hall event, the election video song “Main Bharat Hoon” (Kashmiri version) which persuades the voters to participate in the elections was played and enjoyed by the participants.

The District Election Officer in his address exhorted the people to come out to vote in Anantnag in a massive turnout in the upcoming elections. He informed all the participants about the facilities that the district administration has provided to facilitate elections.

He educated them about the role of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other functionaries. The Town hall concluded with the administering of Voters’ pledge.

Later, the DEO flagged off the Walkathon in which a large number of participants marched with banners. They concluded their march at the GhantaGhar in Lal Chowk Anantnag.

Along the course of the march, many other participants joined in. The aim of the walkathon was to persuade the voters to participate in the electoral process enthusiastically. Participants raised slogans such as “I Vote for Sure”, “Nothing like Voting”

Notably the district Anantnag with seven assembly segments is slated to go to polls in the first phase to be held on 18th September.
