Jammu, Oct 03: The Department of Pediatrics at ASCOMS Hospital, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), organized a Basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program (BNRP) on Thursday. The BNRP is a flagship initiative of the IAP’s First Golden Minute project, aimed at training medical and paramedical professionals involved in the care of newborns to assess and resuscitate infants if necessary.
The training saw participation from doctors in Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, as well as faculty from the nursing college and staff nurses. A team of expert instructors led the session, including Dr. Sanjeev K. Digra (Professor, Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital), Dr. Subash Slathia (Senior Pediatrician, Jammu), Dr. Vikas Mahajan (Associate Professor, ASCOMS Jammu), and Dr. Niraj K. Gupta (Assistant Professor, GMC Doda).
Dr. Sanjeev K. Digra and Dr. Niraj K. Gupta, who serve as state coordinators for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), have been pivotal in conducting these trainings across the region.
Dr. Ravinder K. Gupta, Professor and Head of the Pediatrics Department at ASCOMS and President of IAP Jammu, served as the chief course coordinator. He emphasized the significance of BNRP in equipping healthcare professionals with vital skills to handle emergencies at the time of a newborn’s birth and ensured that such programs will continue to be organized regularly.
The scientific program was further supported by Dr. Sushil Sharma, Dr. Manoj Sharma, and Dr. Wajid Ali, all Assistant Professors at ASCOMS.
Inaugurating the event, Dr. Rabinder Rattan Pal, Medical Superintendent at ASCOMS, praised the Pediatrics Department’s efforts in organizing such workshops, noting the crucial role of neonatal resuscitation in reducing neonatal mortality.
