Srinagar, Jan 02: Emphasizing that the Apni Party belongs to the masses, its president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday said the party is committed to serving the people in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the party leaders and workers to remain closely connected with the people to serve them better.
Bukhari made these remarks during a meeting attended by party leaders and functionaries from Baramulla. The meeting, held at the party headquarters in Srinagar, aimed to assess the performance of leaders and senior workers from Baramulla.
According to a press release issued here, leaders and senior workers from Baramulla briefed the party president on their ongoing political activities and public outreach efforts. They also brought certain party affairs and issues to the attention of the president and shared their views and ideas to strengthen the party further in the district.
Additionally, the attendees of the meeting held discussions over the present political scenario and the party’s preparedness for the upcoming parliamentary polls. On the occasion, Bukhari advised the leaders and workers to remain in touch with the people.
He said, “Apni Party belongs to the masses; therefore, we must stay in touch with them to better serve their needs. With upcoming elections in mind, we must be active at the grassroots level to raise awareness about our clear agenda and pro-people policies. People need to understand that our primary goal is to serve them and elevate Jammu and Kashmir to new heights of peace, prosperity, and development.”
Meanwhile, Altaf Bukhari urged the Central government to engage in dialogue with the truckers who are on strike against the newly passed law related to hit-and-run road accident cases involving the drivers of commercial vehicles.
Pertinently, the new law, Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), says that neglecting drivers can face punishment of up to 10 years or a fine of Rs 7 lakh.
Bukhari expressed concern over the ongoing nationwide strike by truckers, as it has begun causing hardships for the common people across the country.
“The nationwide strike by the truckers has started creating problems for the general public. Fuel pumps are running dry due to the lack of supply. There might be a shortage of other essentials as well if the issue with the protesting transporters is not resolved amicably soon,” he said.
He urged the union government to hold talks with the stakeholders as soon as possible so that the chaos is over. “I request the union government to engage in talks with the protesting transporters without any delay so that the strike is called off and the present uncertainty is resolved,” the Apni Party chief said, adding, “For the benefit of the general public, it is important to address the issue amicably as soon as possible.”
