Srinagar, Sept 15: In a major political move, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), led by MP Er. Rashid, and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) have joined hands to work for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to AIP Spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi, a meeting was held today between JeI members and the AIP delegation, which was led by Er. Rashid. The JeI side was headed by Ghulam Qadir Wani, with several senior JeI members also participating in the discussions.
The primary focus of the meeting was the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where both parties emphasized the importance of cooperation. After detailed discussions, AIP agreed to support JeI-backed candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama, while JEI pledged its support for AIP candidates in other areas of Kashmir.
In constituencies where both parties are contesting, such as Langate, Devsar, and Zainapora, they agreed to a “friendly contest” to avoid conflicts and ensure mutual respect.
“Both parties believe that unity is essential to resolving the Kashmir issue and achieving lasting peace in the region. They highlighted the rapidly changing political landscape and stressed that neither JeI nor AIP could remain passive during these critical times,” Nabi said.
JEI, which was banned by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2019 for alleged links with separatism, recently reiterated its commitment to non-violent political solutions.
Today’s alliance marks a new chapter in JEI’s efforts to work within the political framework for the betterment of the people, AIP Spokesperson said.
The leadership of both parties urged their members to support each other’s candidates in accordance with the agreement, with the goal of securing a strong victory that reflects the true aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
