Srinagar, Oct 13: Ahead of the upcoming winter, the Power Development Department (PDD) has sped up branch-cutting work across the Kashmir valley to avoid damage to electricity poles and wires.
The Chief Engineer of PDD, Er. Javid Yousuf told Rising Kashmir that in all the sub-divisions of the valley, the department has impressed upon the employees to execute the branch cutting before the season’s first snowfall.
It is to be mentioned here that people in non-metered areas told Rising Kashmir that the winters are yet to come and they have started unscheduled power cuts.
Reacting to the people’s claim, the chief engineer said that they are yet to fix the winter curtailment schedule and are trying to provide a sufficient power supply to the people of the valley.
“They also requested people to use the electricity as per their registered load to avoid the more curtailed schedule.” “The department will also form teams in every sub-division that will conduct the inspections to avoid power theft.”
The officer said that consumers must act responsibly and use electricity in accordance with their registered electricity load.
“The department employees can’t reach every household to check the illegal load. People are urged to cooperate with the department to avoid any curtailment plans. In addition, the senior official urged people not to use crude heating gadgets.
If people didn’t cooperate and used electricity beyond their registered load, they would have to face the curtailment schedule. Earlier, the Chief Engineer said that the department is fully prepared for any exigency ahead of the upcoming winter. He stated that the department will be prepared for any weather.
The officer stated that this winter said that the department has also built a strong infrastructure to combat the difficulties faced by people in peak winters. The demand-supply ratio was 1750 megawatts last year, and it is expected to reach 2000 megawatts this year.
