Srinagar, Jan 01: After three decades, a security bunker built in the early 1990s at Braripora, in the Safakadal area of Srinagar, was dismantled by authorities on Wednesday.
The bunker was built by Border Security Force (BSF) during the early 1990s at Braripora locality, following the unprecedented turmoil situation in the Valley.
Talking to reporters, Jayiz Ahmad Alaie, property owner adjacent to the bunker, said that CRPF, which was occupying the bunker and my property, has vacated the site. The bunker was constructed in the early 1990s by BSF,” he said.
Alaie said this bunker caused frequent traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, and its removal will help ease the flow of vehicles in the area.
Meanwhile a senior CRPF official told Rising Kashmir that following the improvement in security situation in Srinagar.
“We assess the need for a bunker continuously. If a bunker is no longer required, we will dismantle it,” he said, adding that more such bunkers will be reviewed in Srinagar city.
He said that this bunker was established in the 1990s, initially occupied by the Army, followed by the BSF, and later the CRPF. No formal orders were issued for their removal; instead, the dismantling was carried out following a routine security review, CRPF official said.
In 2018, Authorities demolished a CRPF bunker 26 years after it was set up in the busy Hari Singh High Street market.
