Ganderbal: Advocate Altaf Lone Ganderbali was Thursday elected chairman of Municipal Council (MC) Ganderbal.
Adv Lone defeated Ab Rashid by five votes. Out of 17 counselors, 12 counselors voted in favour of Adv Altaf Ganderbali while his next rival Abdul Rashid got only 7 votes.
The fresh election for the chairman Municipal Council Ganderbal came after former Council Chairman Hilal Tantray lost No Confidence Motion against him moved by several councilors last year.
On this occasion, Advocate Altaf while thanking the councilors for electing him said that he will strive for better civic amenities to the town residents.
Talking to Rising Kashmir Adv Altaf said his priority will be to fight climate change at local level by ensuring the green cover is increased in the district. “I along with the entire team of Municipal Council Ganderbal including councilors will ensure that ‘Green Ganderbal’ slogan is practically achieved”.
Our focus will be to provide proper sanitation besides neat and clean atmosphere to the town residents,” he added
“The issues of the town are immense. Our priority will be to address all those issues on priority basis and develop this historic town on modern lines,” he asserted.
