Adopt innovative waste-to-energy ideas: Chairperson JKPCC

Jammu, Jan 12: Chairperson, JKPCC Dr. Neelu Gera on Thursday called for adopting innovative waste-to-energy ideas to ensure efficient management of specific types of waste in accordance with standard norms laid under relevant rules and guidelines by CPCB and the directions issued by NGT from time to time. She laid stress on an integrated approach towards waste management by all ULBs as well as Village Panchayats in letter and spirit.    
Dr. Neelu Gera, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee was the chief guest at an interactive workshop on “Technological Options for Waste Management (Solid Waste, Dairy Waste & Poultry Waste)” which was held on Thursday at JKPCC’s conference hall here.
The objective of the workshop was: to have interaction with concerned stakeholders and share various technological options available for waste management in J&K including Solid Waste, Dairy Waste & Poultry Waste; to have a common platform for discussion among the regulators and implementing agencies to ensure implementation of the respective rules and guidelines; and National Green Tribunal directions for waste management.
Regional Director, JKPCC, Sat Paul welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the objective of the interactive workshop. K. Ramesh Kumar, Member Secretary JKPCC informed the gathering that decentralized waste management specifically for wet waste, dairy and poultry waste should be preferred over transportation of such waste to waste processing facilities to promote Source Waste Management / Community Waste Management by involving self help groups and NGOs.
Roop Krishan Shukla, Zonal Manager North India, Maple Orgtech India Ltd., Kolkata gave a detailed presentation regarding use of Effective Microbes technology for Source Waste Management in a scientific manner including wet waste and legacy waste.
Anil Kapoor, Environmental Consultant, MD, Layers Enviro & Organics, Noida briefed about the use of the bio-organic solutions for the treatment of wet waste and bioremediation. Neeraj Choudhary, Founder and Managing Director, Bansi Gau Dham, Uttarakhand gave a detailed overview regarding waste to wealth and employment generation while managing cattle dung. Arshad Malik, Divisional Officer, JKPCC, Jammu (South) presented a vote of thanks.
The workshop was attended by the officers from Jammu Municipal Corporation, Urban Local Bodies Jammu/Kashmir, National Rural Livelihood Mission, Department of Rural Sanitation, Department of Animal Husbandry, Divisional Officers and Scientists of Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee, Anuradha, Nodal Officer MSW & E-waste, JKPCC, Jammu, Representatives from Dairy Farms Association and Poultry Farms Association, besides NGOs.
