SRINAGAR, July 16
In an ongoing effort to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims and tourists participating in the Amarnath Yatra, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, conducted a comprehensive security review along with other top officials. The review took place at various points, including the Navyug Tunnel on the National Highway.
During the inspection, ADGP Kumar personally assessed the live up and down convoy movements and observed the existing security measures in place. Valuable insights were provided, and additional measures were recommended to be implemented by the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. ADGP Kumar stressed the importance of strictly adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and urged officers to be extra vigilant to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, ADGP Kumar instructed the Kulgam police to extend full assistance to traffic personnel in regulating traffic and prevent any inconvenience to visitors and locals. Furthermore, he emphasized the significance of creating a welcoming and safe environment, free from harassment, to safeguard the interests of tourists and the general public.
Following the security review, a coordination meeting was held at the headquarters of the 163rd Battalion CRPF, chaired by ADGP Vijay Kumar. During the meeting, officials discussed strategies and measures to prevent potential terror incidents along the designated route. ADGP Kumar highlighted the importance of maintaining robust security on this vital transportation route and led discussions on various counter-terrorism initiatives.
Instructing the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, ADGP Kumar stressed the need to gather specific human intelligence (Humint) to enhance cordon and search operations on both sides of the National Highway. Recognizing the role of intelligence-led operations in ensuring the region’s safety, he emphasized the collection of precise and actionable intelligence. This Humint will play a crucial role in identifying potential threats and facilitating efficient security measures along the designated route.
ADGP Kumar’s proactive review and coordination efforts underscore the commitment of the security forces to maintain a secure environment for all participants of the Amarnath Yatra. The administration remains vigilant and resolute in its determination to provide a safe and memorable experience for pilgrims undertaking this sacred journey.
