Accelerate progress on rural dev projects: DC Kupwara

Kupwara, August 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, on Friday directed officers to accelerate the pace of ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion.He called for improving performance under MGNREGA, which is vital for generating income for the rural poor.The DC held a meeting with concerned officers to assess the progress of works undertaken by the Rural Development Department (RDD) and NRLM-Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the district.The Additional Chief Development (ACD), through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, briefed the gathering on the department’s achievements. It was informed that the Rural Development Department currently has 109,290 job cardholders, with 154,030 active works, and generated 48 lakh man-days last year. The department has achieved 66.39% of its target, amounting to 17.92 lakh Person Days (PDs) out of the planned 27 lakh PDs for the current financial year.In regard to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), it was reported that out of 10,896 sanctioned cases, 10,067 beneficiaries have received full financial assistance for low-cost housing construction. Under PMAY-G 2.0, surveys of 42,897 households across all 26 blocks have been conducted, with 19,463 households verified.The meeting also reviewed the District Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) budget, where 2,005 works have been approved under schemes like ADF, ABDS, APDS, and SSY. Discussions covered progress on CDF works, MPLADS, and the functioning of assets created under the schemes.Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), it was reported that tendering for works stands at 83%. The focus was on ensuring the effective utilisation of assets and implementing a daily solid waste collection routine through door-to-door mechanisms. The DC directed BDOs to optimise the use of assets and ensure proper waste management.Furthermore, the DC stressed the importance of early resolution of land issues related to Panchayat Ghars, FSM, and DEEWATS projects.The meeting was attended by ADDC Kupwara Mufti Fareed-u-Din; Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Muzaffar Ahmad; CPO Parvaiz Ahmad; BDOs, AEEs, AEs, district and block program managers, along with NRLM branch managers and bank representatives.
