Jammu, Sept 09: Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday accused the National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah of peddling propaganda that the BJP is responsible for fear among Hindus.
Chugh, who is also the party’s in-charge of J&K and Ladakh, said, “Hindus in Jammu & Kashmir know the role of Abdullahs and Muftis when extreme brutalities were committed on them. They were mute spectators.”
“Abdullahs and Muftis turned a blind eye when lakhs of Hindus had to leave the valley in the face of extremist violence. Where were they then?” he asked.
On the allegations by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti that the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) is a “proxy” for the BJP, Chugh dismissed the charges as “baseless” and a “figment of her imagination”.
“The PDP and NC have no agenda for the welfare of J&K and no plan to work for the betterment of the people in the future. Let them go through our ‘Sankalp Patra’ (Manifesto) and then speak,” he added.
Asked about Farooq Abdullah’s statement that the NC will never accept the concept of BJP’s ‘Vishisht Bharat’ and his allegation that the saffron party is instilling fear in voters, Tarun Chugh said, “The high voter turnout in the recent Lok Sabha Elections, the restoration of democracy at grassroots levels, a 75% decline in terrorist activities, and a significant decrease in stone-pelting and organised strikes post-2022 are examples of the peace and democracy restored by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He added,” Our party is committed to peace and progress in the region. It is not expected that the NC would support Bharat being Vishwaguru, and we cannot see any nationalistic view from the NC and their leaders. While the BJP speaks of nationalism, harmony, and national integration, the growing popularity and foothold of the BJP across the country exemplify how people have wholeheartedly accepted the BJP and its policies, and it is growing day by day.”
The BJP leader condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for praising China’s manufacturing capabilities during his US visit, calling him a “desh drohi (traitor) who lets down his own country on foreign soil”.
“Rahul Gandhi’s actions are always against India and anti-national. It is expected that he will do such things. He should note that the country has progressed with the Make In India initiative and we have become the world’s largest manufacturing hub. Today, the country is a leading manufacturer and exporter of mobile phones, toys, and other essential goods. We are now leaders in defence manufacturing and exports. In every sector, we are leading and our country will be the world’s third-largest economy by 2047 under the vision of Viksit Bharat.”
