Srinagar, July 08:SatishMahaldar, a Kashmir Pandit residing in Delhi, has earned widespread acclaim from the Kashmiri community for his generous donation to the victims of the recent Bohrikadal fire incident.
In an exclusive interview with Rising Kashmir, Mahaldar, an IIT alumnus, revealed that his primary motivation was to provide aid to those in dire need, drawing from his own experiences of displacement.
Recalling the painful memory of his family’s forced exodus from Kashmir, Mahaldar empathized with the fire victims, stating, “Having experienced homelessness myself, I understand the depth of their suffering. The fire has left people of all ages without shelter, and I wanted to offer a token of love and support.”
Although acknowledging the modest amount of his donation Rs 25K, Mahaldar emphasised its symbolic significance, saying, “While it may not be enough to rebuild a house, it represents a gesture of solidarity with my Kashmiri brethren in their time of need.”
Mahaldar nostalgically recalled the harmonious coexistence of Pandits and Muslims in Kashmir before the 1990s, saying, “We shared each other’s joys and sorrows, and there were no issues.” He poignantly concluded by highlighting the ongoing struggles of displaced communities, stating, “Our experiences of displacement have left lasting scars, and this fire has only added to the hardships of those affected.”
