Kolkata, Dec 22: Asserting that the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant improvement since the abrogation of Article 370, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the violence, attributing such actions to persistent attempts by neighbouring country to disrupt peace in the region
Addressing at an event organised by the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, the Lieutenant Governor expressed concern over the recent Poonch terror attack, terming it unfortunate. The attack on Thursday resulted in the tragic loss of four soldiers and injuries to two others.
Speaking on the security scenario, Sinha stated, “Our neighbour has persistently engaged in such actions to disturb peace in the valley. However, these efforts are futile, as terrorism is on the decline in Kashmir.”
Comparing the security situation in Kashmir to that in Bengal, Sinha clarified that his remarks should not be manipulated for political purposes. He emphasised that the decision made by Parliament on August 5, 2019, regarding the abrogation of Article 370, has received validation from the Supreme Court.
Highlighting the strides in development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sinha outlined a comprehensive approach to foster growth in various sectors. He noted that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir now promotes a red carpet approach for investors, ensuring safety, and facilitating ease of doing business.
Sinha outlined the government’s commitment to utilize abundant resources for industrial competitiveness, promoting collaboration, and creating a conducive environment for growth in agriculture, health, manufacturing, tourism, education, handicrafts, handloom, IT, and electronics.
He underlined the government’s emphasis on digitalization as a top priority and its commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir a dynamic research and development hub, fostering collaboration between industry and academia.
“The time has come for a great leap forward. We are charting a new pathway towards historic and transformative changes in the region, with changes in rules and regulations to improve ease of doing business and ease of living,” Sinha said.
