Chandigarh, May 26: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said that as the public is gravely concerned about “rising inflation” and “unemployment”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the contrary, is busy creating a rift between Hindu and Muslim communities.
Addressing an election rally in Chandigarh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “Public is worried. The youth of the country is unemployed. Women are worried about inflation. Cost of gas cylinders is going high but Narendra Modi is busy creating Hindu-Muslim divide.”
Highlighting the Congress manifesto at the public meeting, Priyanka Gandhi said that by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party here, a message should be sent from Chandigarh to the whole nation.
“To make women self-reliant, 50 per cent of the government posts will be reserved for women. The 30 lakh posts that PM Modi has kept vacant for Ambani and Adani, we will fill them all. Wherever Congress formed the government it waived off loans of the farmers. We will remove GST from every commodity related to farming. We will make MSP a legal guarantee. Now you decide, what kind of government do you need? A message should be sent from Chandigarh to the whole nation that we need true politics back,” she said.
She further said that the word “inflation” no longer comes out of the Prime Minister’s mouth.
“Word inflation no longer comes out of Narendra Modi’s mouth. When the gas cylinder was priced at Rs 400, a minister sat on the road with a cylinder. Today petrol-diesel, vegetables, oil, flour, everything is expensive. People are suffering due to inflation,” Priyanka Gandhi said.
Slamming Prime Minister Modi for his ”mujra” remark, Priyanka Gandhi said that no Prime Minister has stooped so low since the country got independence.
“Even we are ashamed that our Prime Minister is talking like that. Many Prime Ministers were there Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rajiv Gandhi…no Prime Minister belonging to any party in past spoke like that the way current PM is doing,” he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the India bloc for appeasement politics, saying that they are performing “mujra to keep their vote bank” intact, adding that till Modi is alive, he won’t allow the rights of ST, SC or OBC to be snatched away.
“I am giving the guarantee to Bihar, SC, ST, OBC communities, till Modi is alive, I will not let them snatch away their rights. For Modi, the Constitution is supreme, for Modi, Babasaheb Ambedkar’s sentiments are supreme… if the INDI alliance wants to accept the servitude of their vote bank, they are free to do so…if they want to perform mujra (dance), they are free to do… I will still stand with the SC, ST, OBC reservation staunchly. Jb tak jaan hai ladta rahunga,” PM Modi said.
The remarks by the PM drew sharp criticism from the opposition leaders.
Congress leader Pawan Khera took a hard line against Prime Minister Narendra Modi “mujra” remarks and said that the PM’s remarks demonstrated his divisive mindset, which aims to incite conflicts among the communities in the country.
Pawan Khera said, “Is this the way a Prime Minister of a country speaks? Is there any provision for reservation based on religion anywhere in the Constitution? You have been a PM for 10 years, you have been sitting after taking the oath of the Constitution, you should have at least read what is written in it.”
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav also wrote a letter to PM, saying that the former has said many baseless, factless and false things to the people.
Further coming down heavily on PM, Tejashwi, in his letter said, “Should the language of the Prime Minister of this big-hearted country be like this?”
“Today you came to Bihar and after coming here, you said as many baseless, factless and false things as you could. Now it is not expected from you that you will keep the discussion high while keeping in mind the dignity of your post. But today you have come to the terminology of “Mujra” and “Mangalsutra”. Frankly speaking, we are worried about you. Should the language of the Prime Minister of this big-hearted country be like this? You think and decide,” Tejashwi wrote.
Polling in Chandigarh will be held in the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on June 1.
