Srinagar, May 10: As the fourth phase of LokSabha elections approaches, rigorous security measures have been implemented across Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said on Friday that additional security personnel are being deployed along highways and vital road links in Srinagar and adjacent districts to deter any potential incidents.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Kashmir, V K Birdi Friday said that elaborate security arrangements have been placed for the remaining three phases of LokSabha polls in Kashmir region.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar, IGP said that all arrangements have been placed for smooth and peaceful polling and huge participation of voters.
“Whatever was important, security arrangements were needed, they have been taken care of. Check-points and nakas have been set up in Srinagar and other districts,” he said.
IGP said that security deployment has been made as per the prescribed format of Election Commission of India (ECI). We are following ECI guidelines and ensuring that security arrangements are foolproof,” he said.
The Police Chief further said that police along with the Central forces have upgraded the inter-district check points and area domination has been given a further push.
“ In upcoming days, frisking operations and area domination will be further intensified to ensure anti-peace elements are kept at bay,” he added,
IGP Kashmir said there is close coordination between the District Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and civil administration to ensure the smooth conduct of the election process. The importance of providing quality accommodation and facilities to the security personnel deployed for polling duties.
He said IGP Kashmir stressed the need for extensive area domination, preventive measures to forestall any potential law and order issues, and strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure incident-free elections.
“The move is committed to providing a free, fair, and secure environment for the public to exercise their voting rights without fear or bias,” he added.
Srinagar LokSabha constituency will go to polls on Monday (May 13 ), followed by north Kashmir and South Kashmir seats on May 19 and May 25.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, PK Pole told Rising Kashmir that ahead of Srinagar Parliamentary Seat, arrangements have been finalised and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) companies have arrived.
“We are committed to conducting free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and incident-free elections. The right to vote is a fundamental constitutional right for citizens, and everyone should exercise this right,” he said.
CEO appealed to the electors of Srinagar, Baramullaand Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency to participate in polling in maximum numbers. Participate in the biggest festival of the largest democracy enthusiastically.
“Voting is not only a constitutional right but responsibility. People should choose their representatives from political parties and even they can press their NOTA option in respective polling stations,” he added.
Meanwhile, the high-stakes Srinagar parliamentary constituency is gearing up for an intense electoral showdown on May 13 (Monday), with a staggering 17.4 lakh voters.
