The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra on Thursday appealed to the people to cast their votes decisively in favour of the party.
Campaigning in various villages of the Keller block in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, he said, “There is a prevailing atmosphere of suffocation in Kashmir over the past five years. There is a lack of freedom of speech; religious leaders and educated youth were detained for delivering sermons or posting on social media.”
The PDP candidate for the Srinagar constituency said the solution to this situation lies in voting, not boycotting the electoral process. He reminded the people that it was the residents of the four districts of south Kashmir who supported Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s ideology, which led to the formation of the PDP.
Urging the residents of Batamuran village to unite behind their party, he stressed the importance of consolidating all votes on one side.
Meanwhile, Parra raised concerns about the mining of minerals from the Rambiara rivulet flowing through Shopian. He criticised the outsourcing of mineral blocks to individuals from other parts of the country, which, according to him, led to an increase in the prices of construction materials like sand, pebbles, and boulders.
