Jammu, Apr 23: Former Union Minister and in-charge J&K Congress affairs, Bharat Singh Solanki on Tuesday said that the Central government is turning a blind eye towards the apprehensions and concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the people are reeling under a shortage of various basic requirements but the government is “unmoved”.
“The government lacks an approach which is based on consistency, clarity, conviction and creating only mess making people to suffer unnecessarily without any fault of theirs,” Solanki said while addressing a public gathering organised at Domana to campaign for the party’s candidate for Jammu-Reasi constituency, Raman Bhalla.
In his address, he said, “The BJP regime has antagonised all sections of people whether it is the youth, government employees, women or even children. This government has hurt every section of the society.”
Expressing his anguish over the “mounting problems” of the common masses, he alleged that during the last ten years, the Union government has done nothing to solve the basic problems of the people. Solanki said there is “total chaos and confusion” among people as BJP leadership has failed to remove peoples’ apprehensions.
“On the one hand, there is complete uncertainty in J&K, while on the other hand, people are confronting with failure of the administration to solve day-to-day problems,” he said, adding that various parts of J&K are facing scarcity of basic amenities.
Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani said that BJP should take responsibility for the present situation in J&K. “We definitely want a government of the people representing J&K. We cautioned the BJP government to correct its flawed approach and work for rebuilding the trust and restoration of normalcy in J&K but it never pays any heed to public issues.”
Lambasting the government, he said that without an elected government people of J&K were being neglected and overlooked. “The major stress of the government should have been on assuaging misery of the unemployed youth who have grown up in conflict,” he said and expressed disappointment over BJP’s “lip-service” regarding burning issues of J&K.
Wani said the BJP government’s last ten years proved “most traumatic and devastating” for the youth, farmers and traders of the country. “The party made lofty promises during elections, however, the fact remains that developmental activities are almost invisible and no concrete measures are taken to address the issues of livelihood while most of the projects which are visualised, do not get started and those which have been started often do not meet their end is the trend of Jammu projects,” he said.
Former MLA and Senior Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Congress, Thakur Balwan Singh in his address slammed the BJP government saying it “failed to ensure a congenial atmosphere for elections to take place in Jammu and Kashmir and elect a government of the people in the state”.
“The directionless, agenda-less and clueless policy of the government has left the people of Jammu and Kashmir in complete despair and this is a grave national concern. The government lacks an economic roadmap for inclusion and progress for the people of J&K,” he said.
