Srinagar, Apr 18: Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, the Returning Officer for the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, has announced the commencement of the electoral process with the issuance of the Election Notification today.
District Election Officer, Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, informed that more than two lakh new voters have been added to the Srinagar parliament segment following the delimitation process.
Candidates intending to contest the upcoming LokSabha Elections-2024 in the Srinagar Constituency, encompassing 18 Assembly segments across Ganderbal, Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, and Shopian Districts, can file their nomination papers until April 25, 2024 (Thursday) between 11:00 am to 03:00 pm at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Srinagar.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on April 26, 2024 (Friday) at 10:30 am, while candidates can withdraw their candidature by April 29, 2024 (Monday) until 03:00 pm.
Polling for the constituency is scheduled for May 13, 2024 (Monday), from 07:00 AM to 06:00 PM.
Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat revealed that over 1.7 million electorates, including 873,426 male, 870,368 female, and approximately 51 transgender voters, will exercise their franchise in the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.
The constituency comprises 18 Assembly segments distributed across Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, and Shopian districts.
A total of 2,135 polling stations have been set up across designated locations, with dedicated Model Polling Stations arranged to provide a festive atmosphere for voters. Special facilities, including clean drinking water and ramps for persons with disabilities, have been meticulously arranged to enhance the voting experience.
Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat urged all eligible candidates and stakeholders to adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Election Commission of India and ensure a free, fair, and transparent election process in the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of encouraging first-time voters, with over 200,000 eligible voters in the 18-20 age group expected to participate in the upcoming LokSabha Elections.
Furthermore, there are 929 polling stations in Srinagar alone, with a total of 2135 in the Srinagar parliament segment. Each polling station is equipped with facilities, including wheelchair access, drinking water, electricity, and other necessities.
For individuals above the age of 85, there will be options available for voting either by ballot or by visiting the polling stations, following ECI guidelines. Similar facilitation will be provided for specially-abled individuals.
Moreover, each assembly segment will feature a pink polling station led by a female presiding officer, with all staff being women as well.
